The VendorPoint™ Story

Fortrex began receiving requests to develop a vendor management capability for several of its banking clients. To satisfy these requests, Fortrex worked hand in hand with several leading banks to develop the initial program from a best business practices approach based on GLBA and FFIEC guidelines. The early development effort was based on policies and spreadsheets which allowed the banks to capture certain due-diligence data elements relating to risk. Fortrex quickly concluded that this manual, labor intensive methodology would overwhelm the vast majority of individuals who have day to day responsibility for vendor management. We also noted severe inefficiencies with their ability to measure and monitor risks on an on-going basis.

Our intense desire to overcome these shortfalls lead to development efforts to build a completely automated, low-cost solution which would reduce the burden associated with managing vendor relationships, while increasing the bank’s visibility into risk exposure. To accomplish this, we designed a secure, web-enabled system that includes standardized policies and assessment criteria, an ability to internally rate and manage each risk, and produce actionable, easy to comprehend reports that executive management will appreciate.
